Security Incident Map –
Nigeria

Nigeria is facing a complex security situation, particularly in its northeastern and central regions, where Boko Haram and its splinter faction, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have intensified attacks against the armed forces, civilians, and strategic infrastructure. The area around Lake Chad remains a hotspot of chronic insecurity, with frequent clashes between armed groups and government forces. On May 14, 2025, a deadly attack claimed by ISWAP resulted in at least 45 deaths in Borno State, primarily targeting civilian populations. Despite ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Armed Forces, supported by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) composed of several regional countries, many territories remain beyond government control. The civilian population continues to bear a heavy toll, facing violence, forced displacement, and a growing humanitarian crisis.
